The Dilemma of Right and Wrong: A Journey Within

Life is rarely black or white. Every day, at every crossroad—whether in relationships, career, friendships, or even the smallest personal choices—we find ourselves standing before the eternal question: What is right, and what is wrong?

We are constantly navigating this duality. Every decision, big or small, carries with it layers of complexity woven from our experiences, emotions, upbringing, culture, and the society we live in. What may feel deeply right to us as individuals might be labeled wrong by collective opinion. And what is widely accepted as right by society may not sit well with our inner truth.

This is where the real struggle begins.

The Weight of Choice

When we make a choice, we do so with the best of our knowledge, intentions, and beliefs at that moment. But life is unpredictable. Time can sometimes reveal to us that what once felt right may not have been the best path. And then arises another heavy question: If I made a choice thinking it was right, but later discover it was wrong, am I then responsible for bad karma?

Karma, like right and wrong, is also layered. Our intentions play a vital role. If our choices were made with sincere intent, with honesty in our hearts, and without malice or selfish gain, then perhaps we are not as entangled in negativity as we fear. Life is a continuous process of learning; every “wrong” step brings lessons that lead us closer to understanding ourselves and the world.

The Voice of Society vs. The Voice of Self

At times, the conflict is not just internal, but external. You may feel deeply certain that your choice is right — one you can even justify standing before the Almighty with full conviction. You feel no guilt, no fear, only peace. But society may still reject it.

The norms and standards society creates are shaped by collective experiences, fears, traditions, and power structures. What society calls “wrong” might simply be “unfamiliar” or “non-conforming.” And yet, we do not live in isolation. We are bound by relationships, reputations, responsibilities, and expectations. The fear of judgment, loss of acceptance, or hurting loved ones makes the battle between personal conviction and societal norms even more difficult.

Where Do We Draw the Line?

This is perhaps the most challenging question. Is there a line to draw? Should we prioritize self over society or society over self? Is it bravery to stand for your truth, or is it wisdom to compromise for harmony? There is no universal answer.

Every situation demands its own balance. Sometimes, standing your ground brings growth, liberation, and even inspires change. At other times, restraint might protect you and those you love from unnecessary suffering. The key lies in awareness — a deep understanding of your own intentions, the potential consequences, and the people who will be affected.

The Ultimate Compass

In the end, perhaps the only reliable compass we have is our conscience — a quiet but powerful voice that whispers in moments of solitude. The ability to stand before your own self and your higher power with peace is a strong indicator. If you can say, with complete honesty, “I chose this path with love, with responsibility, and with faith,” then that path, regardless of how it is judged externally, carries a certain righteousness.

But even then, stay open. Life may reveal new layers. Our growth depends on our humility to re-evaluate, to learn, to adjust. There is strength not just in conviction, but also in reflection.

Conclusion

The duality of right and wrong will always exist. It is the nature of human life. Our role is not always to find perfect answers but to stay deeply connected to our own values, to be honest about our intentions, and to carry compassion for ourselves and others as we walk this complex path.

Sometimes, there is no “right” or “wrong” — only choices, and the courage to take responsibility for them.

How Indian Art Is Shaping Our Economy and Global Identity

Indian art is going through an exciting transformation. What was once seen purely as a form of expression is now also being recognised as a powerful contributor to the economy and a symbol of India’s cultural richness on the global stage.

Recent insights from the art world reveal that the value of Indian art is steadily rising. Paintings by modern Indian masters have seen strong growth in value over the years, making art a respected and promising form of investment. For artists, this means their work is no longer just admired—it’s being seen as an asset.

But beyond investment and value, Indian art is becoming a voice for the country. Our paintings, sculptures, and traditional crafts are finding homes in international galleries, private collections, and exhibitions around the world. They carry stories of our heritage, spirit, and diversity—speaking across cultures without needing translation.

So what does this mean for artists today?

  • Your work has power: Emotionally, spiritually, and economically.
  • Your story matters: Art is one of the most honest ways to represent India to the world.
  • There’s space for growth: More collectors, platforms, and buyers are paying attention to Indian creators.

As an artist, I find this deeply encouraging. Through my own work—rooted in both tradition and emotion—I hope to keep contributing to this beautiful evolution of Indian art.

If my art speaks to you, I invite you to explore more of it. Let’s continue this journey together—where colour, memory, and meaning meet.

Reflecting on a Remarkable Year: Accomplishments, Growth, and Gratitude

As I look back on the past year, it was nothing short of extraordinary—filled with accomplishments, lessons, and deep personal growth. Each year, I make it a ritual to journal, set goals, and manifest the life I envision. Through a combination of hard work, belief, and the power of the universe, I managed to achieve so much.

Here’s a glimpse of what I accomplished:

– A car

– A new home

– A villa in Goa

– Business growth

While these may appear as material milestones, they hold a deeper meaning for me. Let me share the true essence behind these achievements:

Learning to Drive and Finding Freedom

Instead of just saying I got a car, I see this as the year I learned to drive confidently through the chaotic, traffic-filled streets of Mumbai. Driving, especially as a woman in a bustling city, is more than just a skill—it’s a form of liberation, a step towards independence and freedom. For me, this achievement symbolizes empowerment.

Building a New Home

Getting my own space with my partner was a dream come true. In a country where joint families are the norm, moving into a nuclear setup felt like a bold yet liberating decision. It was a step towards becoming more independent, focused, and progressive, while still honoring the close ties of family. Finding balance and creating a win-win for everyone made this milestone even more rewarding.

Adding Roots with a Villa in Goa

Owning a villa in Goa wasn’t just about acquiring an asset; it was about creating a deeper connection with our roots. My partner’s ancestral ties to Goa and the presence of our family deity there made this a profoundly meaningful investment. Beyond its financial value, it feels like a spiritual bond with the land.

Spiritual Growth: The Ultimate Treasure

While material and emotional milestones are fulfilling, my spiritual journey this past year is what I value the most. My connection with Lord Shiva and Adishakti deepened, and this relationship brought me unparalleled clarity, confidence, emotional stability, and balance. It was through this connection that I found my inner strength and true alignment, a treasure far greater than any physical accomplishment.

What Makes Life Meaningful?

For me, life is about blending material, emotional, and spiritual achievements to create harmony. What makes life meaningful to you? Is it material success, emotional fulfillment, spiritual growth, or a combination of all three?

As we step into 2025, I encourage you to reflect on your goals and dreams for the year ahead. Share your thoughts in the comments—I’d love to hear what makes your life feel abundant and fulfilling.

Here’s to a year filled with new beginnings, growth, and endless possibilities.

Happy New Year 2025!

Love

CTRL + ALT + DELETE: 3 keys for a happy life

Humans, who are born with the basic concept of “Maya” (desires), how can they give up on material and emotional possessions?

Well, not talking on the spiritual angle here… it’s just a plain concept of letting go of things and humans and emotions which no longer serve you. Anything which is needless or useless only becomes an extra burden in life.

How this can help you:

Makes life easier: Tough life is not easy, however, when you try to choose things which are important and add value to your life, and let go of things which make your life complicated, your overall living experience will be peaceful.

More productivity: There is a Japanese concept of 5S which stands for Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain. This is a perfect example of lean thinking and a method for better productivity.

Creates a Balance in mind: We often keep the emotional angle aside and try to become practical. But we cannot ignore our emotional side as we are built by these emotions (this makes us human), so we have to balance our minds with emotions, intellect, practicality, and spirituality. It is a continuous process of self-introspection which takes time but if one is diligent then you can surely have the balance. For this continuous upgrade, you have to add progressive elements and remove the negative elements.

Keeps the negative away: This is the primary element for me, and I guess for everyone. No one wants to stick around with the negative. Identifying what is negative and then removing it from your life is essential to create empty space for positivity. Again, this is a conscious and continuous process but most critical for a happy and contented life.

Improved productivity: Any overly ambitious person is productive, but a holistic life approach teaches us to balance all aspects and be productive in life. Your goals and aims should coexist with family, friends, health, and self-care.

A sorted mind and a happy soul can lead to a successful, contented life.

6 Essential Habits for Thriving Artists

Art Blog by Reena Naik

Believe it or not, cultivating habits is crucial, especially the good ones, to become a successful artist and stand out as a unique and shining star. Here are some of my perspectives on this:

1. Immersion in Art: To truly excel, you must live and breathe art. When something becomes your passion, it becomes inseparable from you. Over time, you gain unparalleled clarity about your goals and life’s purpose, igniting a deeper passion and drive to persist with vigor and enthusiasm.

2. Discipline: Talent alone is insufficient. Success demands diligent effort. No one else will do the work for you. While luck may bring some assistance along the way, it’s up to you to establish discipline and adhere to it. Dedicate yourself to painting daily, engaging in marketing activities, networking with others, and maintaining a structured schedule. Personally, I advocate for journaling, which streamlines the process and can be customized to suit your creative rhythms and surroundings. For more insights on art of journalling, you can read my blog on the subject. 3. Prioritize Marketing: In today’s saturated artistic landscape, standing out requires proactive marketing efforts. With numerous artists competing for limited gallery spots and promotional opportunities, the burden is on you to consistently create and promote your work. Make marketing a habitual part of your routine to ensure ongoing visibility and relevance.

4. Embrace Constructive Criticism: Honest feedback from trusted critics is invaluable. While we may adore our own creations, external perspectives provide essential insights. Embrace criticism with openness, recognizing it as a pathway to growth and refinement.

5. Authenticity is Key: Succumbing to external pressures or imitating others may yield short-term gains, but true longevity and fulfillment stem from authenticity. While it’s essential to adapt to market demands, never compromise your unique voice and vision. In a sea of imitations, originality is a beacon of creativity. Embrace your individuality boldly, for it is your greatest asset.

6. Financial Stability: Achieving financial stability is crucial for sustaining a career as an artist. While the path may be challenging, proper planning, investment, education, and openness to opportunities can pave the way to financial security. Make it a habit to focus on that too. For more insights on achieving financial independence as an artist, you can read my blog on the subject. Click Here

In conclusion, success in the artistic realm requires a blend of personalized strategies tailored to your unique strengths and preferences. While hard work is essential, it must be coupled with strategic planning and authenticity to achieve lasting fulfilment and success.

Ergonomics for every artist

Ergonomics is the study of designing and arranging workspaces, products, and systems in such a way that they fit the people who use them, thereby maximizing efficiency, safety, and productivity. It is important for every artist to consider ergonomics because the work they do can put strain on their body, leading to discomfort, pain, and even injury.

Here are some ways for artists to incorporate ergonomics into their work environment:

  1. Posture: Maintain a good posture while working, sit with your back straight and avoid slouching.
  2. Furniture: Invest in ergonomic furniture such as chairs and easels , paint boards , tables for keeping the paint tubes and bottles, that provide good support for your body.
  3. Stay organized: Keep your workspace tidy and clutter-free to reduce stress and improve focus.
  4. Enablers to be organized: Use tools like shelves, organizers, etc. to keep your supplies and tools organized and easy to reach.
  5. Consistency: Establish a routine and stick to it to maintain good work habits and to avoid burnout.
  6. Lighting: Ensure that your workspace is well-lit, preferably with natural light, to reduce eye strain and headaches.
  7. Knowledge of products: Learn about the products you use and select ones that are less harmful to your health and environment. Many companies are making canvases out of non chemical products and also some colors are less toxic
  8. Take frequent breaks : Take short breaks every two hour to stretch and move around to avoid prolonged periods of sitting.
  9. Use equipment to avoid bending: Use equipment such as a drafting table or easel to avoid bending over your work for long periods of time.

Incorporating ergonomics into your work environment can help you create a healthy, safe, and productive workspace that supports your creative process and enhances your overall well-being

Time management is key for artists

People who work 9-5 are generally obliged to follow a timetable, under the pressure of pay cuts or to create a statement for the juniors or to impress and show the discipline to their seniors.

On the contrary, artists who are their own masters have double jobs. They act as the owner of their business and hire themselves for not only 9-5 but for 9-9 or maybe more.

I always use that analogy because I worked in corporate for 10 years and now in the art field for a few years. Initially, many make mistakes of not managing their time well. Time is money, is real for independent individuals whose financial reward is directly proportional to their work.

Time management is crucial in the life of an artist.

How do you manage your day and live through a successful and fruitful year and a happy fulfilling life?

1. Journaling – The importance of writing journals really helps manage your day well. This is a process where you develop a habit of writing a journal/ or you may say start with a to-do list and to maintain a follow-up. I have been practicing journaling for a few years and this really helps you to evolve into a better and stronger individuals. I will cover more details about journaling in my next blog.

2. Reminders – Smart phones and smart watches are not just to remind you to drink water during the day. You can use them to remember your work list or an important task. The human brain cannot remember everything, which is why we must plan and use technology for our own profit.

3. Write and celebrate your accomplishments – A successful project or a great sale can remind you that you have managed everything well, including your time. If you miss the time, someone else will seize the opportunity. If you are on time and priority you can earn in any situation.

4. Set realistic targets- There is a concept of goal setting where it is explained that one should set SMART goals, it means S – Smart, M – Measurable A- Achievable, R- Realistic, T- Timely. As this concept , studied in my masters and implied in the business, is the key for time management , I want to share in the art world. As mentioned earlier , that we all artists are entrepreneurs of our own talents and have to earn money. So, if we can replicate some Success Mantras from the world of business management, this makes our business easy. Therefore, setting goals that will not interfere with your smooth running should be reconsidered.

5. Manage your emails, messages and social media well – Checking, replying to mails and deleting spam can take hours. Similarly, social media and interesting but unrelated content can kill your productivity driving procrastination. That may in turn change your plan of the next day and so on. So control yourself to fall for any engaging or entertaining content on social media or games on smart phones . Thanks to artificial intelligence for advertising strategy.

To summarize, you are your own master and you create your own destiny to make your own dreams and wishes come true. These are directly proportional to your efforts. Make the most of it.

Stay tuned to my next blog on journaling.

Fraudulent Art Scams

During COVID 19 pandemic, many people have been left helpless and have been affected in some way. This has made people use fraudulent ways of earning for a living, and some have become reliant on them.

In order to stay safe, vigilant, and cautious in such situations, I would like to share two incidents that I recently encountered.

ART EMAIL SCAM

A person named Kavita Pal emailed me and mentioned that she works for the Indian navy and doesn’t have a working network, and has been on duty for almost a year. She said that she was unable to attend her friend’s wedding due to work commitments and she will miss to meet them on their anniversary too. In her email, she included a photograph of one Sikh couple that she wanted me to paint. The couple lived in different state.

As it looked genuine, I agreed to proceed and sent her an affirmation email.

I receive a revert on my email asking for timelines and delivery. I quoted my price plus delivery charges. In her next email she asked me to share my account details like my name, account number, and address.

That again anyone will ask to pay advance. I asked my lawyer friend about the matter, who seemed to be okay with it, so I shared the details. Then I felt in my gut that something was wrong. It is obvious to me that you are not at risk with just your name, address, and account number since this information is widely available.

The biggest security against financial fraud is not sharing your OTP. She apparently got the idea to steal my money in my next mail. She wrote that she sent an advance payment demand draft for Rs.58500/- (the amount I quoted for the portrait was Rs.5000/-) and Rs8500/- for courier charges. It was mentioned that she would send someone with the demand draft, and that I should pay 8500/- in cash, and that the full payment would be made in advance. Having concluded that this was a fraud, I decided to report this email ID to cybercrime .A person can take up a job and get a salary and live with honor and without.

INSTAGRAM SCAM

Before the above incident, immediately after the first Lockdown in 2020, I get an Instagram message about one commissioned art and that person was from the UK. The moment I showed interest the person said that he could pay by PayPal. I asked him to make an advance payment, to which he agreed and asked me to send a PayPal ID. He then sends a message to share an OTP, which I will get on my phone; I said if you are making a payment you will get the OTP.

He created urgency but this rule “DON’T SHARE YOUR OTP WITH ANYONE” is very clear in my mind and I messaged him saying let me ask my uncle who is in cybercrime (just to scare him). That guy immediately blocked me on Instagram and so did I (I reported his profile as fake before blocking him)

With these incidences, I gathered some knowledge about cybercrime and its increase in today’s time. So here are some tips:

How can you save yourself from becoming a victim of Cybercrimes?

1) Alertness: – Whenever anyone connects intending to steal your money, your gut will tell you that it’s wrong.

2) Awareness: – Read about Internet scams and make your elders, friends, and family know about online scams. Especially, older people as they fall for it more than you.

Some ways they will ask for information.

a) They will tell you to share OTP (this is a very basic and common type), and they will come up with variations like

 – Share OTP or else your account will get blocked

– Share OTP or else you won’t be able to make online payments

-Share OTP and you will win a lottery

-Share OTP, we are a travel company and we want to give you a free travel ticket to bla bla bla…..

-Share OTP for KYC of your bank account / Paytm / PayPal / GPay etc. And if you fail to do this your account will be blocked.

The basic rule to safeguard yourself from online crime is “NEVER SHARE THE OTP (ONE TIME PASSWORD) TO ANYONE IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

4) Always doubt if: –

-The “Buyer” is in a Foreign Country or They Need an Outside Shipper

-If the buyer is in a country far from you or needs to involve a shipper at all, beware — this is a major red flag.

-There is a tight timeline

-There are Spelling, Grammatical, or Spacing Errors

-They Request a Cashier’s Check or Bank Information.

Its innovative world, and people are using many innovative ways to loot you. So, stay alert, be aware and save your hard earn money to go to the fraudsters.

Financial aspects in the life of an artist

– Reena V Naik

Artists are creative people, who devote their heart and soul to create new things for the world. They help us see the world differently, and make a monotonous world lot more beautiful for us.

Being an ex-corporate and now a Professional Artist , I got to know a lot  about these  two different worlds. One which is structured and the other is totally unstructured. In an artist’s world, there are no documented processes, no rules, or defined sources of income . There are just a few who make it big and get all the limelight. The others are engrossed in their own art, somehow manage to make the ends meet. They find it difficult to find takers of their art, and live an oblivious life.

So, here are some handy tips for an artist to bring in financial stability in life:

Awareness
Awareness about what’s happening in the world. How people in various art fields are creating success stories. Learn from the experiences of others. Reading books, articles and blogs. Knowing and implementing things which you think would help you in the long run.

Investments
“You should not keep all the eggs in one basket “ – Warren Buffett
This quote is a proven fact that we should invest our hard earned money in different and diverse forms of investments. Set aside funds for investment in Stocks Fixed Deposit, Government schemes, PPF, SIPs, property, Gold, Insurance etc.

Adopt Minimalism
A part of minimalism is saving money . You will find many articles on how to save money. Unlike salaried employees, artists don’t get monthly pay cheques, hence it is essential to regularly save a portion of the income. This should be a part of your lifestyle to be able to save first before spending.

Never buy luxury on a loan
Earn it before you spend it. Anything that you want to buy (may be except some big investments like buying a property), buy it from your savings. Avoid purchasing depreciating assets on a loan .

Positive vibes
This one is my favorite as it’s like a fuel. Practice meditation. Do yoga. Listen to music. Go on drives. Do absolutely anything that has a soothing and calming effect on your soul. Keep your surroundings and your soul happy and always stay positive. For this we should make conscious choices in our life.

This article is written basis my personal experiences and learnings. Give your love if you like my thoughts.

How can you be creative in a non-appreciative environment?

Do you have a reason to jump out of the bed every morning? Do you have a fire within you, which keeps you going? Does the external energies and environment pull you down? Do you often fall sick?

The above questions depict the fight between what is within us and what environment we live in. A country where, on a larger scale, appreciation doesn’t hold much importance in people’s life, staying creative becomes difficult. Being an optimist, I would like to take you through simple ways to survive an environment where appreciation is missing.

  1. IT ALL STARTS FROM YOU – “Law of attraction”, “ You see what you are”, these are simple known sayings and facts, which you can apply, in your daily life. Be positive and show gratitude to every thing you are surrounded with. You shall surely reap the fruits.
  2. REMEMBER, ITS A SLOW PROCESS – It will take time, as cultural change is a slow process. Stick to your beliefs and engage yourself in self-development.
  3. DONT ASK FOR IT – Let people appreciate you with a genuine intention. Asking for it will reduce your value or the value for your work. However, you can give them some indirect clues and see the scope.
  4. SEPARATE BUSINESS WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY – If your focus is only on people, who are in your inner circle, and you seek appreciation from them but you are continuously failing, you have to broaden your horizon. They say there is market for everyone., there is audience for each one. Your work will find its audience only if you reach out to a higher number of people.
  5. STAY POSITIVE – Staying positive is easy, as long as we are taking charge of what is happening around us and how it is impacting us from within. If you are waiting for that day to come, when everyone around you will be optimistic and this world will be full of positive vibes only, you are living in a bubble world. The more you will keep your surroundings positive the more creative and successful you will become. The simple way to do this is to self introspect. Apart from getting clarity of what do you want, also get clarity of what you don’t want.

Everyone’s situation, ideology and actions are different. I hope my thoughts will help you in staying positive and explore creativity. This planet needs evolved individuals and lots and lots of creativity.
